Join the Alexandria City High School PTSA, the Alexandria PTA Council (PTAC) and Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) at a forum to discuss Supporting Healthy Choices in Teenagers on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. at the Alexandria City High School King Street Campus.
Families will be able to ask questions such as:
What conversations should I be having with my teen to encourage good choices?
What are the signs of substance abuse in teens?
What are the consequences for families when alcohol and drugs are consumed by teens in their house?
The forum will feature a panel discussion with ACPS staff alongside city and community leaders. The panel will be followed by breakout sessions that provide an opportunity for further exploration of substance abuse prevention, Narcan training, mental health and suicide prevention.
Community partners will have resource tables available during and after the forum, including: Alexandria Health Department and the Teen Wellness Center, Hazel Health, the Substance Abuse Coalition of Alexandria (SAPCA), and Moms Demand Action/BeSmart.
Interpretation will be provided in Amharic, Arabic, Dari, and Spanish. Pizza will be served until 5:45 p.m. In addition, childcare will be available on a limited basis to ACPS families with children ages 3-8. Please register early if you would like childcare. ACPS families can register to attend the forum at www.acps.cc/healthychoices. Families who have questions that you would like addressed during the meeting should send them in advance at www.acps.cc/healthychoices.
