Fully Fund the ACPS Budget

On February 22, the ACPS School Board passed an ambitious budget to fund our
2024-2025 school year.

We understand that the City Council is facing a difficult budget year with decreased
revenue projections and numerous high-priority funding demands. However, we are
confident that with an advocacy campaign that brings families, educators, and
community members together, we can be successful. After all…strong public schools
result in strong communities!

The ACHS PTSA is working with the Alexandria PTA Council to advocate to fully fund
the budget in order to support student success and a thriving city.

We have a few action items that we hope you can help with:

Almost 80% of our school funding comes from the city budget. We will be speaking out at the city budget hearings on Monday, March 11 (5:30pm) and Saturday, March 16 (9:30am). We would love to have ACHS educators, neighbors, parents, and students speaking with us. Mark your calendar and stay tuned for more details.
Submit a statement or read a statement to the city council in support of the school board-approved budget. You can also email them (here are instructions with letter writing samples in five languages as well as some helpful talking points).
Write a letter to the editor of one of our local newspapers, such as The Alexandria Times or The Alexandria Gazette Packet.
